Storm, Tigers Take Second Place in Major Myrtle Beach Tournament
The Beach United Football Club scored a hat trick of championships at the March 3-4 Grand Strand YMCA Can-Am Cup, and two more teams were finalists on their home turf as more than 200 teams invaded Myrtle Beach for the youth soccer tournament.
The BUFC Legends claimed the Under-13 Boys Blue crown, and the Flash and PridePumas captured girls titles against a highly competitive field. The Storm and Panthers were runner-ups in their respective divisions, and other BUFC teams made strong showings in the annual event.
The Flash were unchallenged in the Under-14 Girls White Division, scoring four consecutive shutouts and outscoring their opponents by a combined score of 28-0 to collect the championship trophy.
The PridePumas had to battle to a dramatic 1-0 win over the PISA Hurricanes via penalty kicks in the Under 14-15 Girls Red final. Avenging an 1-0 loss earlier in the tournament, the PridePumas took a 3-1 edge in PKs to take their fourth straight tourney title.
The Legends allowed only one goal for the entire tournament to earn the Under-14 Boys Blue title. They took 1-0, 2-0 and 2-0 victories in pool play before defeating PSA United 2-0 in the final.
The Storm went undefeated in pool play at 2-0-1 before suffering a tough 1-0 loss to MPRD Cosmos in the final of the Under-13 Boys White. The Storm allowed only goal per game in the tournament.
The Tigers won three consecutive one-goal games to reach the Under-10 Girls final but suffered a 3-0 loss to the CASL Fusion to earn second-place honors.
